 After contacting several handymen, I chose one who was recommended on this forum. He came over to my house yesterday to deal with a disastrous shower in urgent need of re-caulking. When he left, he told me to let it dry overnight. I did. This morning I turned on the water very briefly. Then I turned it back off, planning to wash the shower which was emitting some mighty peculiar odors. All the caulk between the tile wall and the tile floor had little holes in it! It turns out this guy had used the wrong caulk, which he had applied without scrapping off the layers of caulk underneath.

 In a panic, I went straight to my neighbor Eric. This was on a Sunday morning, mind you. Eric came right over. He diagnosed the problem, went home to get his supplies, and spent the next two hours re-doing my shower, bathtub, and all my sinks. Everything, it turns out, had the same problem. He charged me a grand total of $25.

 Eric has 15 years of experience in construction, as well as having done landscaping and irrigation. He has "closed" 880 homes.

Being in the construction field myself at the time, Eric was the only super out of the three I had that was able to answer any question without giving me the if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull----. Last week we noticed apparent wood rot around some windows. Eric promptly returned my call and came to the house in 5 minutes. He and Lance surveyed the house for any other problems. We ended up with new plastic wood frames, black painted plastic shutters, repaired water line break, caulking of whole house, sod replacement, repairment of front banister rails. Not only were they extremely pleasant to deal with but everything was fixed in 3 days. We would thoroughly recommend Eric and his crew Lance, Robert and Steve. We asked Eric to add some electrical outlets for us, add undercounter lighting, and generally check the outside of the house.  He did all we asked, plus found several areas the original builder didn't caulk on the outside of the house- not a good thing with potentially bad weather coming in the summer.  Having Eric's team check out the outside of your house for weather-proofing is a good idea for most of us!
